The Diocesan Office for Evangelization is hosting winter and spring Discovery and Awakening retreats. Retreats are great opportunities to take a step back and reflect upon God's role in your life and to spend time in prayer and discernment. Below are all the details about these opportunities.
What is a Discovery retreat?
A peer-ministered retreat which encourages teenagers to discover their own identity and their relationship with God. The retreat is incredibly dynamic with talks, small group interaction and community-building experiences. It is based on the steps of evangelization and helps the young person know Jesus in faith!
Who should go to a Discovery retreat?
9th or 10th graders who are ready to dive deeper into understanding their relationship with Jesus.
When and where are the Discovery retreats held?
Discovery #1 - December 8-10, 2017 at Watermarks Camp in Scottsville - Registration deadline is November 28.
Discovery #2 - January 12-14, 2018 at Smith Mountain Lake (near Roanoke) - Registration deadline is January 2, 2018.
Discovery #3 - February 23-25, 2018 at Smith Mountain Lake (near Roanoke) - Registration deadline is February 13, 2018.
What is a Christian Awakening retreat?
A peer-ministered retreat which enables the teenagers to come to know and experience Christ, and to see him in themselves and others. Youth are invited to look at ways of serving others and becoming better, more fully committed Christians.
Who should go to a Christian Awakening retreat?
11th or 12th graders who are ready to live their faith in a profound way. Christian Awakening (CA) builds on the foundational elements of the Discovery Retreat and is great for forming leaders in your parish community.
When and where is the Christian Awakening retreat held?
October 13-15, 2017 at Camp Bethel (near Fincastle) - Registration deadline is October 3rd.
How do I register for a Discovery or Awakening retreat?
Contact Mr. Steven ([email protected], 804-262-7315 ext 237) and let him know which retreat you would like to attend, and he will send along the necessary registration paperwork.
What does it cost?
After a parish subsidy, the cost for the retreat is $100. However, as always, we want students to be able to participate - if the cost is a burden, please inquire about applying for additional parish support.
Will there transportation provided to and from the retreat?
There is no parish provided transportation to these retreats. Thus, for the purposes of registering please assume you are responsible for getting your student to and from the retreat location. However, Mr. Steven will work to arrange a carpool if we have multiple youth attending one of the retreat sessions.
